This Oscar season, two SparkShorts landed spots on the shortlist for Best Animated Short: “Out,” about a man whose accidental body-swap with his dog helps him come out to his parents, and “Burrow,” an adorable and lovely 2D work about a rabbit who dreams of building a cozy home below ground but then runs into a logistical nightmare. The two shorts hail from creators at different ends of the Pixar spectrum: Steven Clay Hunter, a veteran animator whose credits range from “A Bug’s Life” all the way up to “Soul”; and Madeline Sharafian, a crackerjack young story artist with a unique style who worked on “Coco....
The “Power of the Dog” star gushed to Empire magazine that the “Doctor Strange” sequel is a “big, big movie,” one that could rival the box office record–breaking “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in terms of scale. “It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. Worldwide Impact on Theaters: Devastating While the industry expected a delay for “Black Widow,” it didn’t expect one that would last six months. With a similar push for “Eternals,” that means more than a year without a Marvel title; with the loss of “West Side Story,” “The King’s Man,” and “Deep Water,” theaters face starvation rations for the rest of 2020. Box-office revenue, and the customers who buy concessions, are effectively delayed until November 20 (“No Time to Die” and “Soul”), followed by fewer-than-usual studio Thanksgiving and Christmas releases....
Both “Haunting” seasons found Flanagan putting a remix on a famous literary ghost tale: “Hill House” was inspired by Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name, while “Bly Manor” used Henry James’ 1898 ghost story “The Turn of the Screw” as its jumping off point. Neither Flanagan nor Macy have pinpointed the next ghost story they want to adapt, but creator and director Flanagan knows whatever story they choose will be a redefinition of the genre....
