It’s a tradition literally as old as the Bible. And beyond documenting how people break the rules that govern our evolving notions of society, we’re constantly fascinated by those charged with righting those wrongs....

The episode, cannily titled “Breaking Bad,” was also noteworthy for finally introducing the long-awaited appearance of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), officially merging the timelines of the AMC original series and this prequel one. But as first caught by Decider, Ratray makes his own appearance as an insufferable man named Alfred Hawthorne Hill, who meets Gene (Jimmy/Saul Goodman in his post-“Breaking Bad” persona in the time-jumping episode) at a karaoke bar....

During a visit this week to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (see the full interview video here), “Lord of the Rings” movie actors Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd touched upon the nudity controversy by revealing Peter Jackson’s film trilogy almost included nudity itself. Monaghan and Boyd starred as hobbits Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck and Peregrin “Pippin” Took, respectively, in each of Jackson’s three films. “Here’s the thing. There was almost nudity in the movies,” Boyd said....

Okay, so most YA adaptations are super derivative, but at least this one has style. And a real sense of danger. And Jacqueline Bisset as a French dance instructor who refers to her students as “rats,” and lets them call her “le Diable” in return. “Birds of Paradise” begins as a fish-out-of-water story when a cash-strapped Virginia teen named Kate (“Booksmart” breakout Diana Silvers) tiptoes into an elite Paris ballet academy on someone else’s dime....

TMZ reported its story based off an Atlanta PD report, which shows that Coogler, 35, was attempting to make a transaction in a hat, sunglasses, and COVID face mask. Walking up to the counter, he handed the teller a withdrawal slip with a note written on the back that, according to the report, read, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. And the “Borat” sequel actually interacts directly with Vice President Mike Pence and presidential adviser Rudy Giuliani, who has been forced to respond to his pants-down hotel flirtation with Bulgarian discovery Maria Bakalova, who landed a hotel room interview under the guise of a 15-year-old journalist who caters to the one-time mayor’s “preference for women with ample cheese-producing capacity.” In an ordinary year, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” would be sidelined in the Oscar race with the possible exception of Best Adapted Screenplay....

Rhimes cheered on Van Dusen’s vision of a new slant on the period romance. “From the beginning, she gave me the creative room and freedom to make the period show I’ve always wanted to see,” said Van Dusen on the phone. “I never wanted it to feel like a typical period piece. It was inspired by eight delicious romance novels.” Van Dusen not only saw a commercial series in Julia Quinn’s “Bridgerton” books — which each focus on a different Bridgerton offspring, starting with eldest sister Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) — but the opportunity to disrupt the hidebound conventions of the Regency Romance popularized by such writers as literary influencer Jane Austen (“Emma”) and 20th-century bestsellers Georgette Heyer (“Regency Buck”) and Barbara Cartland (“The Wicked Marquis”)....

Additionally, a number of movies shot on Kodak 35mm and 16mm color or black-and-white film stock can be found elsewhere in the programming, including those under the Un Certain Regard banner: Justin Chon’s “Blue Bayou” (DPs Matthew Chuang and Ante Cheng) and Yohan Manca’s “Mes Freres Et Moi” (DP Marco Graziaplena)....

Per Nielsen’s report, which was based on viewership from August 16 through August 22, “What If…?” was viewed for 225 million minutes, making it the ninth most-viewed show in that window despite only two episodes of the series being available at the time. It’s likely that the Boseman-centric episode helped the animated Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero series break into Nielsen’s latest streaming report; though MCU titles tend to be ratings drivers, the series premiere did not appear in Nielsen’s report last week....

Production on the latest entry in the exotic dance franchise is now underway in London, starring Channing Tatum and with Steven Soderbergh returning to direct after skipping “Magic Mike XXL.” “It’s going to be pretty bonkers,” co-creator and executive producer Tatum told The New York Times in a recent interview. “We’re kind of swinging for the fences — there never needs to be another stripper movie after this one.” While “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” is expected to be an untraditional love story with a female lead, Tatum gave a few more plot details: “We’re trying to do a fish-out-of-water story where it’s a reverse-role ‘Pretty Woman’ story that ends up with a lot of dancing in it,” the “Lost City” star shared....

The decision to remove “Chappelle’s Show” off HBO Max follows in the footsteps of Netflix pulling the sketch comedy series from its streaming platform at the end of November. Chappelle urged his fans not to stream “Chappelle’s Show” on various platforms because series owner ViacomCBS has not paid him for licensing out the Comedy Central hit. With Netflix no longer streaming “Chappelle’s Show” and HBO Max soon to follow, only the ViacomCBS-owned streamer CBS All Access will feature the program in its library....

Kelvin Harrison Jr. stars as Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who was the illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner. Bologne (Harrison Jr.) rises in French high society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, catching the eye of Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) and her court. However, as the French Revolution mounts, Bologne’s alliance shifts as the Queen’s court deems him a “party trick” and a “pet” playing the violin....

“There’s no safety net for any of these guys and Tom, I mean… what he did with that character has yet to be fully appreciated. In a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Danny Elfman revealed that the early negative reception to his score made him think that the film would be a failure. “I had no idea,” Elfman said. “Because when I wrote it, nobody understood it. I got horrible reviews for it. Disney didn’t know what to make of it. How could Disney know what to make of it? They did a preview with kids who were expecting ‘The Little Mermaid’ and they got an unfinished version of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas....

Chappelle devoted a considerable portion of his 15-minute monologue making fun of Kanye West and Kyrie Irving for their recent antisemitic remarks. He began by mocking their PR blunders, pointing out that Kanye should have apologized to “buy himself some time” and joking that the rapper was so antisemitic that Irving got in trouble by association. The comedian then proceeded to explain why he sees antisemitism, particularly the idea that Jewish people collectively run the world, as a flawed ideology....
