WarnerMedia announced on Wednesday that Soderbergh will direct all six episodes of the series, which will be written by Ed Solomon. The duo also executive produce alongside Casey Silver; “Full Circle” serves as a reunion for the team following “No Sudden Move,” which premiered on HBO Max in July. Per WarnerMedia, “Full Circle” will center on an investigation into a botched kidnapping that uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present day New York City....

Television Group was responsible for several of the most high-profile and critically acclaimed television shows of the last year, including “Ted Lasso,” Apple TV+’s breakout comedy series, as well as HBO’s recently canceled “Lovecraft Country,” both of which premiered their freshman seasons in 2020. “Ted Lasso,” which received 20 Emmy nominations, has since become one of the most critically well-received originals on Apple TV+; its sophomore season is slated to premiere July 23 and a third season has already been ordered....

For as long as there have been movies, there have been stories about the people who make movies. From “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Sullivan’s Travels” to “La La Land” and “Mank,” filmmakers have found the inner workings of Hollywood to be an incredibly fruitful source of creative inspiration. It isn’t hard to see why, as the contrast between the glamorous highs and crushing lows of Hollywood serves as an excellent platform to explore timeless human themes....

Among those that have yet to return are the #2 exhibitor Regal, Southern California-based Arclight/Pacific Theaters, and other significant theaters particularly in New York and Los Angeles. The net result is a top 10 in which three films improved their grosses this weekend, and only one fell more than 15 percent. The best news is verified reports of sold-out shows in some Los Angeles and New York theaters....
All the way up until its enigmatic, red-hued final moments, Season 5 of “The Expanse” had its share of mammoth-scale moments. But in the season finale, the quietest ones might end up being the longest-lasting. In the moment, the rescue of Naomi Nagata (Dominique Tipper) is certainly one of the most striking. Completing an arc that began with a daring hard vacuum escape, Naomi’s second untethered journey through space ends with the life-saving help of Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams)....
So while the series finale of “The Sopranos” might be remembered for its ambiguity, the real genius of that sudden cut to black was how clearly it said “that’s it.” No more. Whether Tony got whacked by the guy in the Members Only jacket or wasted away at the Green Grove retirement community some 40 years later, there would eventually come a time when he was forced to cash out with whatever spiritual pittance he still had left, and that time wouldn’t arrive on his schedule....

So it’s series like “The Wine Show” that best work around the problem by making food its main dish (or, in this case, the beverage paired with it), but surrounding it with plenty of other courses. Some of those arrive in the form of its presenters: Season 3, now available to stream on Acorn and Sundance Now after premiering in the U.K. last fall, adds Dominic West to the existing trio of James Purefoy, Matthew Goode, and Matthew Rhys....
There’s something to be said for any movie capable of turning a kid’s lit classic into a dead-eyed chimera so frightening that it almost cured this Jewish critic of his lifelong Christmas FOMO (almost), and it’s sincerely hard to have anything but respect for the madman who convinced Warner Bros to fund a $150 million retelling of “Beowulf.” But the motion capture monstrosities that Zemeckis made between 2004 and 2009 hinted at a filmmaker so focused on bridging the gap between actors and animation that he kept trying to leap across the uncanny valley with his eyes closed....
Studios and producers need signs that the public can respond to standalone titles that show some degree of originality. That is what happened here and it’s a big deal. “Uncharted,” based on a well-known video game and starring Tom Holland, while his most recent “Spider-Man” is still #3, will gross and estimated $44 million for the three-day weekend; $51 million, with Presidents Day added. That’s as much as 50 percent above conservative estimates and a third better than the more realistic ones....
“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel — [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” said Pascal, who is also the former head of Sony Pictures. “We are getting ready to make the next ‘Spider-Man’ movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies…Yes, Marvel and Sony are going to keep going together as partners....
Holland has expressed plenty of gratitude towards his fellow Spider-Man actors for blazing a trail for him and appearing in the latest film. But while the stars seem to be on great terms now, Holland was previously worried about tensions between him and Garfield. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor says he wishes he had reached out to Garfield after he was cast as Spider-Man and tried to imagine how he would have felt if the roles were reversed....
