Celebrity model Carl and his girlfriend Yaya (Dickinson and Charlbi Dean) are invited on board a luxury cruise for the mega rich, with an unhinged captain (Woody Harrelson) at the helm. What at first seems Instagram-ready unravels into a spectacle of catastrophe and, as IndieWire’s David Ehrlich wrote out of the Cannes Film Festival, “a seasick eruption of shit and vomit so intense that it manages to engender sympathy for some of the worst people in the world....

Perhaps that’s because Tribeca Film Festival and Tribeca Enterprises co-founder Jane Rosenthal has a longstanding interest in video games (and even compelled Tribeca Interactive to produce one back in the ’90s). With so much newfound holiday attention on “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Empire Magazine re-shared its 15th anniversary oral history with the nine-actor ensemble of “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The lengthy interview includes memorable tidbits about the making of Jackson’s epic fantasy franchise, most notably Viggo Mortesen’s reveal of the one J.R.R. Tolkien character he wishes Peter Jackson included in his three-film adaptation. “I’d like to have seen what Peter Jackson would have done with the character Ghân-buri-Ghân, the chief of the Drúedain, wild men of the Drúadan Forest,” Mortesen said....

AMC announced in September 2020 that a spin-off series starring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride would follow their respective fan-favorite characters, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. They’d long hoped to make “Army of the Dead,” an ambitious zombie heist film, at Warners, but Deborah said they have no regrets in creating this new partnership. When Netflix stepped in to make the film in 2019, it offered a big budget, a greenlight for two more franchise entries, and the kind of creative freedom not often on offer in a world gone mad for existing IP. The Ducks are back on ice. “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” the 10-episode series centering around a new crop of youth hockey players, premiered on Disney+ on Friday, March 26. The latest installment of the franchise is set in present day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from the scrappy underdogs of yesteryear to a powerhouse youth hockey team. Emilio Estevez returns as Gordon Bombay in the new series, which focuses on 12-year-old Evan Marrow (Brandy Noon), a young hockey player who fails to make the Ducks team but turns his loss into a new opportunity....

But as is the case with “We Are Lady Parts,” the Channel 4 co-production premiering today on Peacock, there’s a clear charm in seeing the points where the music and whatever surrounds it line up in harmony. Playful with enough flair and distinct twists to shake up its more familiar pieces, “We are Lady Parts” is an energetic merging of aspiring artists and the fictional frame that presents them. For Lady Parts, those harmonies aren’t always tidy: They’re a punk quartet filling up any kind of rehearsal space with as much sound as the room can handle....

The spirit of Mr. Rogers (or the lack thereof) runs deep in “Scare Me” director Josh Ruben’s feather-light but fiercely likeable second feature, which establishes its winking tone through an introductory quote that it attributes to the TV icon with a jump-scare: “Listening is where love begins. Listening to ourselves and then our neighbors.” A lovely sentiment, to be sure, yet “Werewolves Within” can’t help but wonder if such an enduring icon of grace and civility would’ve been able to maintain his faith in other people had he lived to see the Trump era or what it left behind....

“It’s been 10 years now, constantly going on auditions, constantly being told no,” the Nigerian actress told IndieWire on a phone call from London. “I was lucky enough that I was still confident enough to go into the room every single time, even if I wasn’t going to get it anyway. Few contemporary directors have a style as instantly recognizable as Wes Anderson’s. While his films have spanned locations ranging from Japan to pre-war Central Europe to 1960s New England, his style of production design is equal parts twee pop and French New Wave, with healthy doses of vintage upholstery thrown in for good measure. His is an attention to detail giving design lovers plenty to obsess over. Anderson has a love for symmetry, geometric patterns, and muted versions of the primary colors....

Its $10.5 million initial gross fell into the low-end range of expectations — however modest — and doomy extrapolations followed. However, the most urgent response came from activists asking the question: What are the repercussions for the #MeToo movement? As for why Lana’s sister Lilly isn’t involved, Lilly herself recently opened during a Television Critics Association Summer Tour virtual panel for her Showtime series “Work in Progress” (via Entertainment Weekly). “That’s a tough one,” Lilly Wachowski began. “I got out of my transition [in 2016] and was just completely exhausted because we had made ‘Cloud Atlas’ and ‘Jupiter Ascending,’ and the first season of ‘Sense8’ back-to-back-to-back. OK, but how would killing one-third of primetime programming accomplish that, exactly? We’ll get to it, but the real, unspoken reason is easier to identify, official statement or no: It’s all about cost-cutting. Live sports, a heavy drag on NBC’s bottom line, are increasingly expensive. Also not cheap is building out Peacock as an essential player in the ongoing and content-centric streaming wars. Eliminating an hour of linear television could help offset some of those costs....

First announced in 2021, “The United States of America Vs. Vince McMahon” has tapped as showrunners “Transparent” team Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster. The Writers Guild Award nominees, both for “Transparent” and Adapted Screenplay for feature “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” will take on the 1994 trial of WWE CEO Vince McMahon, who was accused of supplying steroids to WWE talent. “Vince McMahon is a living legend. We are thrilled to tell his larger-than-life story with our partners at Blumhouse and WWE,” Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster said in a press statement....
