Being a television journalist means always being two weeks ahead and two months behind of most programming. There are shows you are required to consume as soon as screeners arrive and others that you longingly gaze at on your DVR, as weeks turn into months before you finally have a free evening to get caught up. To my dismay, the FX on Hulu series “A Teacher” was one of those shows that got pushed aside in the holiday content rush, only for me to catch up in the new year....

Co-star Emilia Clarke teased the sequel series that is set to pick up immediately following the “GoT” finale, telling BBC that Harrington created the series “from the ground up.” There is no word yet if Clarke will be cast....

The “Top Gun: Maverick” breakout star recently shut down rumors that he would be playing Cyclops in an upcoming Marvel installment for the mutant franchise. “Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, ‘Dude, are you Cyclops?’ No, I’m not,” Powell told Variety. “Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.” Powell later tweeted to clarify his comments, writing, “I sound angry and confused, but I promise it’s just confused....

Based on Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel of the same name, “White Noise” was meticulously written and directed by Noah Baumbach and stars Adam Driver as Professor Jack Gladney, tasked with protecting his family, played by Greta Gerwig, Raffey Cassidy, Sam Nivola, and May Nivola, after an airborne toxic event forces them to evacuate a picturesque college town. “White Noise” premieres in theaters November 25 and streams on Netflix December 30....

Much of the chatter around these nominations comes part and parcel with Oscar season, with analysis interpreting precisely what each new batch of nominees means for the Academy Award nominations, due to be announced on March 15. For television, the Emmy Awards non-adherence to a January-December eligibility calendar means that all guild awards are consequently a mishmash between episodes and series already recognized by the Emmys last year and competitors whose Emmy eligibility is still outstanding....

While the debut “Hill House” season reimagined Shirley Jackson’s 1959 horror novel of the same name, the new “Bly Manor” will tackle Henry James’ 1898 ghost story “The Turn of the Screw.” The ghost story is set at the eponymous Bly Manor mansion and centers around two orphans under the care of a young governess. The woman becomes convinced the mansion is haunted after her mind slowly begins to unravel the more time she spends inside....

On Wednesday morning at 9:26 a.m. ET, IMAX announced it is increasing its existing stock-buyback program by another $200 million, doubling its former repurchase commitment. Since July 2017, IMAX has bought back approximately 10 million shares of its common stock for roughly $175 million. That basically means the giant-screen company still has $225 million to spend on its own stock through next June. Shares in IMAX rose yesterday on the repurchase news, and again today....
