The series originally debuted in 2001 and has run for more than 100 episodes. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” stars “Seinfeld” co-creator David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalized life. The series also stars Susie Essman (“Broad City”), Jeff Garlin (“The Goldbergs”), Cheryl Hines (“Suburgatory”), J.B. Smoove (“Mapleworth Murders”), Ted Danson (“The Good Place”) and Richard Lewis (“Anything But Love”). Per HBO, the comedy series continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one’s day-to-day life — a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush — can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events....

Kim Alsup, a production assistant on the show, recently slammed the series in a tweet alleging that she was treated poorly on set and experienced subtle forms of racial discrimination. “I worked on this project and I was 1 of 2 Black people on the crew and they kept calling me her name,” Alsup wrote. “We both had braids, she was dark skin and 5’10. I’m 5’5. Working on this took everything I had as I was treated horribly....

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is a separate entity from the feature film which Paramount and eOne, the film division of game owners Hasbro, already have in the casting stages and announced with Chris Pine in the lead. It’s unclear whether this would be a companion series to the filmed feature, with the same cast, or if this would be a totally separate entity. Created in 1974, “Dungeons & Dragons,” referred to as D&D by its fans, is an expansive tabletop role-playing game filled with wars, treasure, and more in a mythical land filled with humans, elves, and numerous other creatures....

“Part 2: Jules” or “Fuck Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob” is framed around a single counseling session, with Schafer acting opposite HBO favorite Lauren Weedman (“Hacks,” “Looking”) as her therapist. The session, and the episode, sees Jules exploring her complicated romantic feelings towards Rue, her abandonment by her mother, and her shifting ideas around her outward expression of gender. Jules opens the session with a blunt admission, telling her therapist she is thinking about stopping taking her hormone blockers....

The 1982 classic film celebrated its 40th anniversary on August 13. And while the movie, helmed by Amy Heckerling and penned by Cameron Crowe, launched the careers of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Forest Whitaker, Sean Penn, and Nicolas Cage, among its star-studded ensemble cast, actor Judge Reinhold alleged Universal was wary to even release it in the first place. “We were really heartsick because somebody high up said, ‘This is pornography, and there’s no way that Universal’s going to release this movie,’” Reinhold told The Hollywood Reporter....

Author R.L. Stine’s long-running YA series “Fear Street” might be decidedly PG in its thrills, chills, and kills, but when it came time to transfer his creepy vision to the big screen, things took one hell of an R-rated turn. In filmmaker Leigh Janiak’s Netflix trilogy, the stakes are very real, and so too is the gore level, which unspools via a wide variety of icky, bloody, and just plain scary kills....

But often overlooked when discussing HBO’s great drama series is “In Treatment,” a show centered around a single therapist, Dr. Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne) and a rotating slate of patients. It was a small show, an unconventional half-hour drama that aired five episodes a week, the better to mimic a therapist’s schedule. But within those half-hour episodes, each representing a single therapy session, “In Treatment” packed a hell of a punch and in its first three seasons earned a Peabody Award, seven Emmy nominations, and two Emmy wins....

Sony as a studio continues on a roll. This weekend “Uncharted” took in a stronger than expected $44 million in U.S./Canada theaters. Impressive as that was, it also is critical as the highest opening gross for a non-franchise or sequel release in over two years and it comes, like “Afterlife,” from a studio that has no direct streaming platform. That makes its reliance on traditional strategies — first in theaters, then PVOD at a reduced but still sufficient six-week period, later reduced price — before streaming critical....

“Loot” makes its start far away from that odd bunch at first, nestled comfily in the world of 0.00001%er soirees. Our entree into that stratus is Molly (Maya Rudolph), the wife of Bezosian tech overlord John (Adam Scott) whose life reflects the fortune he’s gained. After Molly discovers her husband’s affair and their marriage dissolves, she takes her assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) and her 11-figure half of the family funds and heads elsewhere....

But “The Rings of Power” is not a remake of the movies or even a traditional prequel, a la Jackson’s own return trip to J.R.R. Tolkien territory. The series is based on the author’s appendices to “The Lord of the Rings” and set in the Second Age of Middle Earth, thousands of years before Frodo or Samwise mosey into the Shire. Showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay developed their own story, inspired by Tolkien’s detailed history, and whether their project is merely indebted to the past or reverse-engineered to echo dependable beats, what’s needed to set the series apart is the same: a pulse of its own....

“The most painful thing Peter Jackson ever said to me… you know, he’s a man of few words. He’s a very, very stoic guy. He can be performative when he wants to, or needs to,” Astin said. “He can act things out, and he’s very eloquent and so forth. But on a day-to-day basis, Peter Jackson is basically like a quiet guy. He sort of lets the work do the talking, and his direction was always very minimal....

The upcoming season will include eight new animated shorts. Netflix also announced that the show had been renewed for an eight-episode Season 3, which will premiere sometime in 2022. Per Netflix, the show’s logline reads: Otherworlds, naked giants, and robots-gone-wild clash in this anthology of adult animated stories executive produced by Tim Miller, David Fincher, Jennifer Miller, and Joshua Donen. Jennifer Yuh Nelson joined Season 2 as supervising director. The series, stylized as “Love, Death + Robots,” is an adult anthology series where each episode is animated by a unique crew hailing from a variety of countries....

“I wanted to show the uncomfortable truth that oppressed folks can also be oppressors,” Green wrote in response to a fan asking her about the portrayal of Yahima. “But I didn’t examine or unpack the moment/portrayal of Yahima as thoroughly as I should have. It’s a story point worth making, but I failed in the way I chose to make it.” Yahima debuted in the series’ fourth episode, “A History of Violence....

Joining Cruz and de Palma in the cast are “Veneno” actor Israel Elejalde and “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” star Julieta Serrano, plus Aitana Sánchez-Gijón and Milena Smit. Per Variety, the story centers on three mother characters played by Cruz, Gijón and Smit. Additional plot details are remaining under wraps, but Almodóvar has been developing the screenplay for years and finally got to finish it during the pandemic....

According to HBO Chief Casey Bloys, there’s still a lot up in the air even after the series’ creator, Brad Inglesby, signed an overall TV deal with HBO. In an interview with Variety, Bloys said, “If Brad felt like he had a story to tell that felt like it would be at the same level, I think everybody would be open to it. Right now, he doesn’t have that story....

Some hooks work better than others, but the most consistent enticement of all is also the most audience-friendly: casting. Whether it’s an Oscar winner, TV favorite, or refreshing breakout, Marvel builds ensembles with precision. They appeal to a wide number of people, attract a target demographic, and/or add to the perceived prestige of the most successful franchise ever assembled. Knowing as much may make you any less susceptible to new offerings, but rare is the person who’s fully immune....

Most of the six-episode opening season of the AMC+ drama concerns itself with the goings-on at a lunar colony centuries in the future. Removed from the preconceptions (and mounting strife) of Earther society, the third generation of isolated, AI-guided moon inhabitants have flourished, and are ready to share their secrets with those back on the Blue Dot in their sky. It’s an easy enough premise to grasp, but creating this alternate world of “Moonhaven” meant sifting through an endless number of visual and logistical possibilities....

The most remarkable thing about “Moonhaven” — the latest original drama for the streaming service AMC+ — is the way it’s able to indulge its creative ambitions on an expansive canvas, all without losing sight of the individuals who make up the tableau. It finds that ultra-satisfying sweet spot between the radical and the familiar, a middle ground where discovery can happen over the course of an entire series and not just its opening chapter....
