More than 30 years after he first donned that infamous Batman suit, Michael Keaton is stepping back into familiar territory. The Fines are producing the documentary through their recently launched social impact studio Change Content with A24. The husband and wife team’s “Inocente,” about a homeless and undocumented California teenager, won the 2013 Oscar for best documentary short. Their most recent movie, “Life According to Sam,” about a teen living with a rare genetic disorder, was released by HBO in 2013 and earned a Peabody and Emmy. The insurrection at the Capitol last week left five people dead....

Variety’s sources, meanwhile, are disputing Smith was ever asked to leave at all. As TMZ reported, “The Academy could have buttonholed the Best Actor presenters and told them in advance … if Will won, simply say he’s not invited on stage and then quickly say ‘We’ll be right back’ and then they would go to commercial. That didn’t happen, and we’re told the reasoning was [that] the Academy officials felt it would make a bad situation even worse....

The scientists embark on a tour around the country warning the population about its inevitable death, but people aren’t so quick to believe them or care. A THR report in February put the budget at around $75 million, but a source close to Netflix told IndieWire at the time that number was not correct...

All due respect to James Cameron and his underwater actors in “Avatar: The Way of Water,” but you can’t beat the filmmaking gamble of Casper Kelly’s “Adult Swim Yule Log.” Adult Swim’s first feature-length live action endeavor dropped without warning December 11 after the season finale of “Ricky and Morty”: A cozy two-minute yule log video morphs into a disturbing home invasion horror movie that becomes a supernatural cabin-in-the-woods thriller with a young couple (Justin Miles and Andrea Laing) who may be at the mercy of a haunted fireplace....

The Emmy nominee shared that Tonka is a “good friend” who is missing amid a pending PETA investigation into chimpanzee breeding facility Missouri Primate Foundation in Festus, Missouri. PETA is offering its own $10,000 reward, which Cumming has now matched. “During the months we filmed together, baby Tonka and I became good friends, playing and grooming each other and just generally larking about,” Cumming said in a statement to Variety....

After winning an Emmy for playing Nicole Kidman’s emotionally and physically abusive husband in “Big Little Lies,” Skarsgård suggested Kidman play his mother in Robert Eggers’ Viking epic “The Northman,” now in theaters. And Skarsgård is even looking to explore a “brother-sister road trip comedy” with his Oscar-winning friend Kidman in pursuit of a “lighter” project together. Skarsgård’s faith in filmmakers has been a cornerstone of his decades-spanning career, from going “full method” as a gasoline-swigging model in Ben Stiller’s 2001 comedy “Zoolander” to blindly signing on for Lars von Trier’s critically acclaimed “Melancholia” a decade later....

Unfortunately, this three-part Discovery+ docuseries has little new to say on its subject — or the themes of power and abuse — because we’ve seen this narrative play out many times before. Hell, even just this week actor Shia LaBeouf, accused of abusive behavior by an ex-lover, embarked on a redemption tour in the hopes of reshaping his own narrative. Bad behavior from Hollywood’s It boys didn’t start or end with the “Call Me By Your Name” star....

Instead, Rahim decides to do the noble thing and seek out the bag’s owner, and upon doing so is widely praised. Once the motive behind this act of generosity is questioned, though, things get muddled, and people around him start to question whether he’s actually deserving of plaudits. As an audience, we also begin to wonder: Should we feel sympathy for Rahim or skepticism of him? This is a question often invited by Farhadi’s work, which is known for exploring ambiguous moral situations....
